The Rules & Lore of Kaosfall
1. Objective: The Odyssey’s End at Kaosfall
You are a mortal rebel leader. Using the power of Kaos, you battle through the dominos of ancient Greece, conquering battle locations, commanding Gods and surviving betrayal from rival rebel leaders.
Your goal: Earn the most Victory Points (VP) by conquering battle locations and mastering dominos.
After four rounds, when all dominos have fallen except Olympus, the mortal with the most VP ascends and becomes the victor of the Odyssey.
2. Components: Relics of the Odyssey
- Board: 6 Dominos — Troy, Sparta, Delphi, Athens, Underworld, Mount Olympus.
- Battle Deck (Mortals) (x5): Mortal soldiers, legendary heroes, mythic tricks Odysseus, Achilles, Hercules, Perseus, Trojan Horse, Medusa, Spartans (x3).
- Battle Deck (Gods) (x5): Hades, Poseidon, Athena, Aphrodite, Apollo.

- Kaosfall Decks (x2): Determine which dominos collapse each round.
- Agent of Kaosfall (x2)
- Oracle Token (x5): A one-time prophetic power.
- Player Tokens | Meeples (x5): Rebel leaders.

3. Setup: The Beginning of Rebellion
- Assemble the dominos as per the Map.
- Shuffle Kaosfall Deck One and place it on Mount Olympus.
- Shuffle Kaosfall Deck Two and place it on Underworld.
- Deal Starting Hand as per the Pantheon in Play (see section 10).
- Place Agents of Kaosfall in the Agent location on Mount Olympus.
- Place Euclid's Path to Olympus near the Map.
- Place meeples on the starting point of Euclid's Path.
4. The Odyssey: Turns & Rounds
- The game plays out over 4 Rounds.
- Each round represents another wave of rebellion as dominos collapse into ruin.
Taking a Turn
On your turn, you may:
- Play 1 card (Mortal or God or Agent of Kaosfall) on a battle location of any domino.
- Or pass if you cannot play.
Battle Locations
Each domino contains 3 battle locations. Each location may hold up to 2 cards per player.
Round Flow
- Players take Turns.
- Once Players can take no more Turns, the Round is completed.
- Reveal cards on Tie Breaker to determine the winner.
- Kaosfall Occurs (see section 6).
- Award VP, move meeples on the Euclid’s Path to Olympus (section 5).
- Cards from surviving dominos, including Mount Olympus, return to players’ hand.
- Agents of Kaosfall cards are handed to players who fulfil the conditions (see section 7).
- Godfall as per Euclid's Path to Olympus is triggered if thresholds are reached.
- Start a new Round from the first step.
- Total game length is 4 Rounds.
5. Battle & Scoring
Winning a Location
Highest cumulative value wins → 1 VP
Ties → Tie Breaker rules apply. See section 9.
Winning a Domino
Win 2 of the 3 locations.
If the domino falls this round → 3 VP bonus
If it does not fall → no domino bonus
Ties → Tie Breaker rules apply. See section 9.
Winning the Tie Breaker: Winning the box (domino) named Tie Breaker on Olympus
How do you win the Tie Breaker?
Highest cumulative value wins.
Ties → No one wins the Tie Breaker. See section 9.
Move your player meeple along Euclid’s Path during Scoring to keep track of VP.
To win a battle is fleeting. To master a domino is to bend an entire realm to your will, feeding the Kaos within. Each conquered domino strengthens your claim as the mortal worthy to ascend Olympus.
6. Kaosfall: The Fall of Dominos
At the end of every Round, before Scoring:
- Draw the top card from Kaosfall Deck One. That domino collapses. Remove the domino from the board and discard all cards played on that domino during this Round after Scoring.
- Draw the top card card from Kaosfall Deck Two. The Underworld may fall…or endure. If the Underworld falls, remove it from the board and discard all cards played on that domino during this Round after Scoring.
Why the Underworld endures:
Hades, second only to Zeus, does not fall easily. His realm may resist collapse until the very end, demanding four tremors before its gates finally shatter.
Why Olympus does not collapse:
Olympus is carved from eternity. It cannot fall, it is the domain of the lightning bearer, where Medusa’s Garden lurks, and the Agents of Kaos hide under Zeus’s storm-shadow. Reader beware, if you fall in Medusa’s Garden, none can save you this round. But if you falter in your campaign, the Agents of Kaos may come to your aid at the end of each scoring round. Mount Olympus is also where your tie-breaker lies, positioning you for the final reckoning. The player with the highest card on Olympus wins the tie-breaker and takes the battle-location or domino where the tie occurred.
7. Battle cards and Special Elements
CHARACTER EFFECTS
- REVEAL - Turn card face up. Show to all players. Return to original location.
- DISPLACE - Move card to a different Battle Location.
- CURSE & DECOY - Place in Medusa’s Garden face up. Return to player’s hand during Scoring for the Round.
- DISCARD - Remove card from the game until the end.
God Cards
- Poseidon (∞): Play Face up. Location lock. Reveal + Displace all cards at the battle location occupied by this card. Does not affect God cards.
- Apollo (∞): Play Face up. Instant win. Location lock. May only be played on an empty location.
- Athena (∞): Play Face up. Location lock. Reveal all cards from any one location in the same domino.
- Hades (∞): Play Face down. Instant win. Not affected by Reveal or Displace powers. During Scoring, the first player to place Hades wins the location
- Aphrodite (0): Play Face down. 2x value for all your mortal cards placed in the same location as this card.
Mortal Cards
Heroes: Hercules (12), Odysseus (10), Achilles (8), Perseus (7), Spartan army (3 / 6 / 9)
Curses and Decoys
Trojan Horse (1): Decoy card. Played face-down.
- When your Trojan Horse is Revealed by a Player due to their card’s ability:
- You must randomly steal a card from the Player’s hand and Displace to Medusa’s Garden face up
- Decoy ability does not affect God cards
Medusa (1): Curse card. Played face-down.
- When your Medusa is Revealed by a Player due to their card’s ability:
- You must Displace a face-down card of the Player from one of the dominos to Medusa’s Garden face up
- Curse does not affect God cards
Special Elements: Agents of Kaosfall
Agent of Kaos:
- At the end of each Round:
- The player with the fewest cards in hand is given the Agent of Kaos.
- Upon their turn during the next Round, they may choose to play this card and privately view the top card from Kaosfall Deck One. A strategic advantage.
- If more than one player is tied for the fewest cards in hand, the player with the fewest VP is given the card. If the same players are also tied on points, no player receives the Agent of Kaos card.
- Tiebreaker rules do not apply.
Agent of Hades
- At the end of each Round:
- The player without their Hades card is given the Agent of Hades card.
- Upon their turn during the next Round, they may choose to play this card and recall any 1 Mortal card from the discard pile into their hand.
- If more than one player is tied for the fewest cards in hand, the player with the fewest VP is given the card. If the same players are also tied on points, no player receives the Agent of Hades card.
- Tiebreaker rules do not apply.
Medusa’s Garden
- A cursed pit beneath Mount Olympus.
- Cards banished here are placed face up and out of play for this Round only.
- Trojan Horse and Medusa’s abilities may send cards here.
Oracle token (Not a card)
- Summon conditions: During your turn, play any card in the domino of Delphi to summon the Oracle. Only once per game.
- Oracle ability: Predict the value of a face down card on any domino and then Reveal. If predicted correctly, that card is now permanently discarded from the game.
Euclid’s Path to Olympus — VP TRACKER
As mortals gain VP and inch closer to Olympus, they climb a spiraling mathematical path inspired by prime numbers.
At the same time, Zeus causes Godfall. Prime number threshold strips away divine allies.
Godfall Thresholds:
At the end of each Round, once Scoring has taken place, if you reach the threshold VP values, you must Discard the corresponding God card:
These thresholds represent Euclid’s primes, carved into the marble of Olympus.
Why do the gods fall away
- Zeus tightens control as you approach
- Strong players are balanced
Strategy emerges:
- Use Gods aggressively early
- Expect to lose them as you rise
The VP tracker visually shows these thresholds with geometric breaks.
8. The End of the Odyssey
After 4 rounds, all dominos have fallen except Olympus. The final Victory Points are counted.
And thus, only one mortal will win, and will look atop the ruins, climbing into the storm to face Zeus.
From Kaos they rose. Through Kaos they fall.
Will you stand atop Olympus at Odyssey's end?
9. Tie-breakers
The player that has won the Tie Breaker location for the Round decides how all ties for Battle Locations and Dominos are settled during Scoring.
-
Example 1: If 3 players have won one location each on a fallen domino. By the rules of the game, there is no clear winner who can be awarded the bonus 3 VP.
The winner of the Tiebreaker decides which 1 of the 3 tied players receives the 3 VP. - Example 2: If 2 players have the same cumulative value on a battle location.
The winner of the Tiebreaker decides which player receives the VP for winning the battle location.
If no single player wins the Tiebreaker during a Round:
Location Tie:
- All tied players gain 1 VP
Kaosfall Tie
- If players tied for domino control: No player gains the 3 VP bonus.
Odyssey’s end Tie
10. Pantheon in Play
11. Rule clarifications:
- Tagline: Can you play draw 4 on draw 2
- Hades - Hades wins if a face up God card is played on top of the face down Hades card. Hades is not affected by the Medusa curse. Hades is affected by the Oracle token. Once Hades is Revealed, it becomes a Face Up card.
- Poseidon - When placed on a stack of cards, the stack must be Revealed. If no battle location is available to displace cards, the other cards must be returned to the opponents’ hands, and the battle location is now occupied by Poseidon.
- If Hades is in the stack, all other cards are displaced, not Hades. Hades wins the location, defeating Poseidon.
- Athena - During Scoring, if it emerges that a Hades card was placed under the Athena card, Hades defeats Athena.
- Medusa - If a player Reveals their own Medusa, they must Displace one of their own face down cards to Medusa’s Garden.
- Trojan Horse - If a player Reveals their own Trojan Horse, they must Displace one of their own cards from their hand to Medusa’s Garden.
- A maximum of 2 cards per location per player must be followed at all times.
- If you cannot place cards during your turn due to any reason, you must pass the turn.
- The number of cards in a player’s hand is public knowledge.
- If a player accidentally plays more than 2 battle cards on a location, only the first 2 cards will be counted and the other cards will be returned to the player’s hands.
- The God cards (except Aphrodite) have infinite value. Infinity is absolute and cannot be beaten by Infinity + 2 or any other mathematical operation.
